Monitor sporadically goes to a black screen

Windows 10

I've looked at all other posts regarding this and none have worked for me. I have three displays currently. My laptop screen, an external monitor that's connected via HDMI, and another external monitor that's connected using a combination of a Fresco Logic FL2000 USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter and a HDMI to DVI cable. The second monitor is where the problem exists.

The screen will sometimes constantly turn black and then back on. Sometimes it will stay on until I move my mouse onto it. But it never stays on all the time. In Device Manager, sometimes the adapter shows up under "USB Video Class Device", and other times under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". When under the latter, it has the error code 43 and says it's not working, even though the monitor clearly shows another screen anyway; despite the flicker. The adapter shows up as working when under the former, but still flickers to black.

Device Manager tells me all drivers are up to date, there is no problem with either monitor (I've had them connected the other way around and the problem persists on the monitor connected via the adapter), there is no problem with any of the wires (except possibly the adapter), there is no problem with any of the power cables, there is no problem with any of my USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports, the same problem occurs in safe mode/clean boot, and my laptop is perfectly capable of running several external monitors even though there is only one standard video output.

Any help is appreciated.
