All Browsers crashing, freezing or failing to load a website after latest Win 10 Update Jan 2017

Windows 8.1

The latest Windows update has affected all the browsers on my laptop. Chrome crashes Firefox fails to load a site Edge fails to load a site This happens sporadically. It can happen every five minutes or once a day. The only way to fix it is to restart the machine. Just shutting the applications doesn't work. I would be interested to know if this is a known problem, and if it will be fixed in a future update.

Why does my laptop only detects my neighbors wifi and not mine when it starts up?

Windows 8.1

I have a Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop and for the past few months it's been having trouble detecting and connecting to my wifi, but it can detect surrounding wifi. I have to wait five mins before it actually finds my wifi, but then it won't connect to it for another 2 mins due to "a problem with the access point." Then after that it connects to the wifi and works fine. Sometimes it will detect and connect to my wifi after the laptop is turned on, but it takes 5 mins for the laptop to actually connect to the wifi. I need a permanent solution to this problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled my network adapter. I unplug and plug the router. I went to power management and unchecked "Allow this computer to turn off device to save power." I switched my power options to high performance. I disabled my anti virus software. My wireless driver is updated. After doing all these things, my laptop is still having a problem. The router is working fine. My iphone, kindle, and my brother's windows 8.1 Dell laptop can connect to it. What do I do? I have also tried these two methods: Method 1: Run network troubleshooter and check. Refer: Using the Network troubleshooter in Windows 7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Using-the-Network-troubleshooter-in-Windows-7 Method 2: Reset TCP/IP and check the issue. Refer this article: How to reset TCP/IP by using the NetShell utility https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/299357

problems with disk management

Windows 8.1

hi all, I was on disk mangement and I saw I have 3 partition without name and no chances to manage them First thing I don't understand is what's the Volume 0 (in prompt), because it seem to be totally empty, I can unallocate it, create a partition but I can't extend C on it. Second thing is why can't I set a label on UEFI and recovery partition? Third is why EaseUS Partition Manager has 3 more partition then disk manager? And there's no way to merge them or extend any other partition on them

Windows folder contains explorer.exe, but SysWOW64 also contains a version of explorer.exe

Windows 8.1

I noticed that explorer.exe is sitting in the Windows folder, as it should (or so I am told), and Task Manager > Details says that this is the folder where the one being used resides. The WindowsSystem32 folder does not contain a copy of explorer.exe, which I have also been told is a good thing (otherwise, one might suspect a virus). However, I do see a different version of explorer.exe sitting in SysWOW64. What is SysWOW64 used for, and would this cause a problem? The reason I ask is that File Explorer (it's called Windows Explorer in my Task Manager) is EXTRAORDINARILY slow. . . . Just curious, and thanks for any information

Windows Update Standalone Installer stuck

Windows 8.1

Hello everybody I am running Windows 8.1 pro and I am trying to install update KB299226 so that I can install visual c++ redistributable 2015 so that I can install dolphin 5.0. Whenever I try to install the update, it hangs on "Searching for updates on this computer." I've tried stopping the Windows update service, and that's the only solution I've found and it doesn't work. I run the standalone installer and keep it going overnight and it's still "Searching for updates on this computer" in the morning and throughout the day it is still stuck like that. Does anybody know a better solution? thanks in advance

Windows edge repair

Windows 8.1

Split from this thread. My system uses Windows 10 Pro and has been plagued with poor or non-existent functions. I might have complicated the system with the simultaneous though configured to nor conflict Iolo System Mechanic Pro, AdGuard 6.x and Norton 360 Premier. MS Edge has been totally non-functional. I tried the suggested method above and noticed no changes. Immediately upon entering the above Powershell prompt, this error message appeared: Add-AppxPackage : Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073D0A, The package could not be installed because the Windows Firewall service is not running. Enable the Windows Firewall service and try again. error 0x80073D0A: Failed to install package Microsoft.WindowsStore_11610.1001.10.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe because the firewall service is not running. Ensure that the firewall service is enabled and started. I have removed Iolo System Mechanic Pro but the situation or damage remains. My system will simply say that it has the latest upgrades but needs to repair or re-install compromised files. All suggestions are appreciated.

Cortana device sync not working between my Windows 10 PC and Lumia 950 XL

Windows 8.1

Hi, I am experiencing this problem with Cortana on my Windows 10 PC where in the Settings section, specifically Send notifications between devices option, I don't see an option to tell Cortana to retrieve notifications from my Windows Phone like in the past. I had to do a clean install of my PC last night and the setting has been missing since. Is there any way to force refresh Cortana? Thanks! P. S. My Phone is a Lumia 950 XL so Cortana is built in and not a separate app. My PC has also the latest Windows 10 version as well.
