How to create a Local user account on Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1

Original Title: Big brother? Do we really have to put things in the cloud?

I've never been a MAC fan but today has sent me very close to dumping my android, my PC & my surface.

Can someone please tell me why I've suddenly been forced to log onto MY OWN PERSONAL COMPUTER with a Microsoft account id? Everything was working perfectly.  Something has been 'done' to my computer, that I didn't spot agreeing to. I've just spent hours trying to get the computer back to where it was prior to being forced to use a Microsoft account.

While I've added all of us via our Microsoft account (so we now have 3 different logons - believe it or not all family members all actually trusted each other and were happy to share the same desktop/start menu - hard to believe?!!!) and I worked out how to add a local user (Even though this was strongly not recommended (and I ask myself why??? - big brother / 1984?) - and it hasn't loaded how the PC was before this was imposed)

It would be great to just have one access to the PC so that I can support the people in the family who are not tech savvy.

You know Mac had iCloud online storage also right?  Google has Google Drive.  I don't see you complaining about either of those.

You aren't forced to login with a Microsoft account.  As long as you can read simple instructions, you can bypass it.

Just click the link at the bottom of the page that says "Login without a Microsoft Account."

  • Just like Google and Apple, you won't be able to use the Store without an account
  • Just like Google and Apple, you won't be able to use OneDrive online storage without an account
  • Just like Google and Apple, you won't be able to get automatic backup without an account

Again, all you need to do is read the instructions and click the link at the bottom of this page:
