I have an eMachines e725. It's up there in years tech wise, my mom got it about 8 years ago. But we've kept the drivers updated and done needed maintenance, taking it to a small repair shop to have it checked up on every other year or so. Works like a charm! My mother gave me this laptop around Thanksgiving. I use it for gaming as well as assignments for college. I don't run anything too rough on it, the newest game I have installed is Portal, which is maybe 10 years old? Well, Monday night, I went to take a break and decided to play the Sims 2. The Sims 2 works perfectly on this laptop, doesn't trouble it at all. However, this time the entire thing froze. I tried CTRL-ALT-DELETE, nothing. So I turned it off via the power button. I powered it back on, nothing. It powers up to the eMachines logo with an f2 setup option, however, there is a BIOS password that no one remembers, so that's out. That's the only button that pops up. Them it goes to a black screen with no cursor. The fan and hard drive are still running, all the appropriate lights are on as they should be...it's just a blank, black screen. And the only way out of it is to press the power button. And then it flashes a green screen before it shuts off, which concerns me but I'm sure is nothing bad. It's a quoick flash before it turns off. I KNOW the display works fine. If it didn't it wouldn't be able to display the logo, would it? My concern is that I could have a particularly nasty virus on it. My mom had Norton Antivirus running on it for years but the contract expired and I, being a poor college student, can't afford to renew it. So therefore I've kept a close eye on the task manager and my systemx86 folder for anything suspicious. I'm not am expert oioin those matters, but I did some looking around to see what I needed to keep an eye on, researching the names of files and applications that I was concerned about. And then over the holidays my sister was using my laptop and got onto firedrop.com which from what I understand is a very virus-infested site. She downloaded a few things but I deleted those files. However I'm sure I've missed a few, and I'm concerned that one may have um...ruined my computer. There have been a few viruses scurrying around but I've contained most of them. I've thought that the computer itself has been acting a lot like it needs to have Windows 7 reinstalled on it--recently my grandfather had to do the same with his laptop and it acted in a similar matter, thiugh it is a 5 year old HP laptop. I have decided not to update to Windows 10 until updates and support for Windows 7 ends, I'm quite comfortable where I'm at OS-wise. Fortunately, I have a CD on its way. I just want to verify that I'm on the right track. Is there anything I might be forgetting or missing?
Split from this thread. I am suddenly having windows update issuues too since the Jan 11 2017 update I applied of malicious and sp1 monthly roll up fixes to my WIN 7 64 bit version. I am getting the 80080005 code by windows updater having issues suddenly this month just days after that Jan fix applies. I will first try a clean reboot and if that does not work go back to the last restore point. ***Post moved by the moderator to the appropriate forum category.***

I have a new PC and loaded my FSX gold (dvds) onto a separate drive just for FSX. I have dozens of paid for add ons and all that is working fine. BUT, I get a 1-80004005 error code every time I start up FSX. After about 30 mins of game play I get kicked off with a notice saying something about a trail version. I probably have loaded this license of FSX onto four of my past PCs (not longer in use) and suspect that I have run out of licenses. To start with, how to I remove the unused licenses and get my current and only PC set up so I don't get a "trail" version. Greg
weeks ago i installed a new windows 7 on my new laptop, after the installation the system was empty, it had 0 installed things on it, i even didn't had internet, i did install some drivers, but there were soo many and some want others and other want ones to even get installed. It was a mess and time consuming, then i decided to update windows with the update center and it may even download some drivers that i need. For my surprise windows won't update, its stuck on searching for updates and just won't do anything. At the time my windows wasn't activated so i thought that this was the problem, today i FINALLY found the reg key and windows is activated, but the update center just wants to play "watch me loopin' this green light FOREVER". Before all of this i have installed many packs, drivers, fixes, even i tried stuff in cmd and changing proxies in IE, nothing! everything loops their loading bars like it's a gif on the internet and if i let them do it till new year i bet that it will stay the same. Now i did search for familiar questions in this forum and i found a guy with the same or familiar with my problem with a answer tagged helpfull from several people, he suggests to update my update center it was something like that, but 1st of all, his link directs me to a page that just shows details about the software and no download link, then i searched if i can find it by its name somewhere else, i did find it finally, actually i found 4 links for system x blabla windows packs and windows server updates, 2 of the download links do not exist and 2 of them search an actual update on my computer that i currently don't have cause my windows hasn't been updated, now at this moment how i'm writing this message one of them is "trying" to atleast start forking or i just have another window with a looping loading bar with no result at all. I just wish to make my computer usable, now i can only use the internet and cannot use anything else on it, i'm struggling with this computer for 5 months now and i can't take this anymore.
Windows 10 base system here recently updated and with File Explorer, if you minimise it the window flickers for ages going in some sort of loop, even if you select to close it the window continues for a few minutes before it shuts down and makes the windows wallpaper flicker, taskbar disaapear, flicker, reset and back to normal. Can only open Windows File Explorer in full view and not minimise, or move to second screen.. Anyone else?
I have an older Lenovo laptop that was running windows 10, but has been running pretty slow for the last few months. I decided to do a system recovery and followed the windows prompts, but it failed after getting about 40% through. I tried again, but had the same issue. now, when I try to start the computer, I get the message that "An operating system was not found" I tried booting from HDD, ODD and Network Boot (the 3 options that I had), but all gave the same error. any suggestions on how to get my computer working again? This computer originally ran on windows 7 when I purchased it. Thanks for your time.
I'm trying to get a Virtual machine (VirtualBox (VMBox)) on my computer to do some testing with it and see what it is, and when I start it up it gives me this error code: MT-X I tried to go on the BIOS system thing and tried to locate it and find it. But its not there and half my stuff on there is missing too (Like control air blower that cools down your computer). So, I was wondering. Is there anyway how I can download it so i can enable it and use it?? Also, I'm using a Toshiba windows 8.1 Thanks!
Hello Community, I have looked through all the postings and have found none that address my particular problem. Here goes, I have a light grey blank screen that has been popping up randomly beginning 1/14/17. I can be on Word, or on the web, when bam! the grey screen hits. It alters in its appearance with lots of microscopic black dots, sometimes whiter in appearance, sometimes darker gray, sometimes there are quadrants of lighter and darker grays, sometimes the screen splits in half horizontally with a line running through the grey screen. It vibrates and flashes, sometimes for a nano-second, sometimes longer. It's been getting worse and worse, lasting longer and longer. To be clear, this is not about seeing this screen on startup. The only updates are the ones windows 10 downloads automatically, so I haven't updated to windows 10 from another OS. Windows 10 came with this computer, and I've had it for five months. What I've done is to go to DELL manufacturers website to see if there any drivers that need to be updated, especially graphics drivers as I've read some think this might be the cause of the problem. All my drivers are updated. I see information about going into safe mode, but it applies to windows 7. I suppose I could try safe mode and see what happens. I think I will, what have I got to lose? In the meantime any other suggestions from the community will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I am completely computer inept. I am so lost. I do not understand linux at all. I got a new hard drive and there was no os. for whatever reason my mom could only put linux on it. well now i want my windows 10 back badly. I have downloaded an iso of windows 10. what do i do?

Folks I'm in Windows 10 using office 365 and have recently had this error message on attempting to start Outlook... "Cannot start Microsoft outlook. the command line argument is not valid. verify the switch you are using." I have attempted to start in safe mode and get same. Have used resetnavpane and this is not working either. I'm finding outlook2016 unstable as having to fix every 3 months or so! What the heck is going on?
