Computer goes to sleep mode before scheduled time

Windows 8

Original Title: my computer does not follow power settings sleep settings

I set up my machine to sleep in 4hrs.  Sometimes this works as set but other times it sleeps in roughly 10 min.  To wake I have to log in again.  I want to be able to leave machine run for up to 4hrs before sleep and re-log.  Is there something else in system that can cause machine to sleep?

Hi Charles,

I can understand the inconvenience that you are facing as the computer goes into sleep mode automatically before the scheduled time that has been set.

I would like to gather some information to help you better:

1) What is the make and model of the computer?

2) Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

You can follow the methods:

Method 1:

You may run the Power Troubleshooter and check if that helps. To do so follow these steps:

a) Press “Windows Key” + “W” from the keyboard.

b) Type “Troubleshooting” in the search bar and hit enter

c) On the “Troubleshooting” window, click on “View All” on the left pane.

d) Click on “Power”.

e) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

Method 2:

If the issue still occurs, I would suggest you to create another power plan and check if it helps.

You can refer to the link to create another power plan:

Follow the section “Can I create a power plan?”

As far the issue with the login on wakeup is concerned, I would suggest you to follow the steps to disable password on wakeup:

a) Press Windows and X key together and select Power options.
b) Click on the Change Plan settings for the power plan that you have set.
c) Click on Change advance power settings.
d) Select No from the drop down menu for Require a password on wakeup.
e) Click on OK.

Check if it helps.

Do get back to us with the status of this issue.
