Undo Troubleshooting Fix

Windows 8

I went through the playing audio troubleshooter and I let it try the Microsoft HD Audio Device instead of my generic default drive. However the audio quality is now worse. How do I undo the change this troubleshooter made? I cannot find the old audio drive in the device manager for some reason. Thank you.

KB890830 & KB3213986

Windows 8

HI, Following the KB890830 & KB3213986 update yesterday, my laptop has gone exceptionally slow. Today whilst working it simply froze with only crome (3 ebay tabs on crome) as opened app. I closed crome using task manager & tried working on edge in case I could access internet there but couldn't. Outlook 2013 couldn't download mails nor would any app requiring internet connection would work. Mcafee total protection console won't open either. My laptop was still connected to the wifi & despite of good connectivity (checked on my phone), Windows was somehow blocking internet. I restarted nearly 4 times to see if it works but it won't. I then started the laptop in safe mode to run system restore. After just over 40 minutes of restore, my laptop restarted but couldn't access my desktop for nearly 8 minutes of login. Restarted again & then finally I had the access. My concern is that the system couldn't have run another update (possibly to rectify this situation) with blocked internet (caused by the above update). Whilst I prefer the windows update to update the system on regular basis; I turned the windows update off temporarily to prevent such recurrence. Is there something Microsoft can do to resolve this issue as I am sure that there will be thousands of users out there facing the same issue? Thanks H

Unable to locate lost and found folder from chkdsk scan

Windows 8

I recently had a corrupt hard drive and was able to chkdsk and recover most of the data. Although I believe a lot is still missing, the report said that over 5000 unindexed files were recovered to the lost and found located at found.000 but no matter where I look I cannot find this folder, can someone please help determine where it is or what happened to it.

Windows 10 reset failures. Computer won't boot now and getting frustrated.

Windows 8

I'm aware this has been a problem before but I've not found a solution yet that has worked. My ex's daughter has a windows 10 laptop that she managed to load with Malware. After 3 days of fighting with it all, and managing to neutralize all but 2 (one was Karma Ransomware, and the other I have no idea but all her web browsers were completely hijacked). I finally gave up and got permission to do a full reset. No problem, I've done this on my own PC with windows 10 before. First it simply refused all various attempts. I researched and bought a flash drive to reset in that fashion. It still failed only now it refuses to do anything at all if the flash drive is not present, in which case it just asks how I feel like resetting this time, both options still fail between 50% and 60% completion. At a few points I've received the option "A configuration change was requested to clear this computer's TPM (Trusted Platform Module) WARNING: Clearing erases information stored on the TPM. You will lose all created keys and access to data encrypted by these keys." I have said both no and yes and the results have been the same. Failed reset around 50%-60% and no way to reboot the computer. To my knowledge there are no cds or any other sort of media that came with the computer (it doesn't even HAVE a cd drive). I'm frankly out of ideas at this point. The computer isn't dead but it's trapped in this weird purgatory and I don't have any idea how to fix it.

Network Connection Windows 10

Windows 8

Two or three weeks ago I was having a problem with my computers randomly disconnecting and connecting from my network. I phoned the support from my ISP and after talking to numerous "Tech experts" I finally got one to send me a new modem (as it turns out it actually appears too have been new in 2003, but that's another story). After installing the "new" modem the connection/disconnection problem seem to disappear however now one of my computers would not connect again. I again phoned my ISP and to make a long story shorter, at least 3 of their "tech experts" said it was a Windows 10 problem and that I should contact Microsoft to solve the issue. I didn't do that right away and the next day I decided to reconnect the old modem again and to my amazement, the computer worked great, no problems. Since there was a $99.00 penalty for not returning the old computer, I sent it back and hooked up the new one again (one of life's many regrets). I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded/printed 8-10 documents that I found in regards to connection issues in Windows 10 and proceeded to go through the various steps in each without success. I will attach some pictures here if I can to show some of the results. I have gone through any diagnostics that was available on my computer. The computer seems to recognize that there are networks in the area but will not show me any, including mine. (see the example icon below). One thing I just discovered today, and which I have attached below, is that under the Device Manager the wireless card says it is working properly yet under Network Properties the card Status is shown as Not Operational. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.......thanks, Brian

[SOLVED] Unable to Delete a File: Access Denied

Windows 8

[EDIT] I managed to get rid of the folder. I did a full power cycle, then had McAfee do a full computer scan. I deleted some suspect files and then did another powercycle. After that, the folder that was giving me a headache was gone. [Original Post] I've been unable to delete a file and I've looked everywhere and have been unable to find an answer. Earlier today, I installed the MiKTeX LaTeX IDE, but it didn't download completely due to a fatal error. It was downloaded into a file on my desktop. I began running it through the McAfee Security's Shredder feature, which deletes files in a manner that leaves no trace, making it cleaner for uninstalling programs than uninstallers or simply deleting files. In the meantime, I installed TeX Live which actually worked. After quite some time, I noticed McAfee got stuck on a certain file, so I went to investigate, and I was met with an error. I found this extremely odd because I'm the administrator for the computer. In fact, this is my personal laptop, and, as such, I'm the only user. "Well, no problem", I thought, "I can take ownership of the file." Unfortunately, as soon as I clicked the "change" button, I was lead immediately to this screen without any further pop-ups. And so I thought to turn to CMD to try to delete it via the rd command to delete files. I knew, however, that I ought to ensure all the attributes of the file are unticked. Right: And? Access Denied: I tried using CMD anyways, to no avail: At this point, I've tried: Running the MiKTeX Uninstaller, which deleted absolutely nothing. Trying to use the "delete" function, to which my access was denied. Use the McAfee Shredder, which I assume is unable to shred files I don't have access to. Take ownership of the file, to which my access was denied. Adjust the folder's attribute so that it is not Read-Only, to which my access was denied. Adjust the UAC settings in case that is the problem. Tried to delete the folder via CMD, to which the access was denied. What else is there to try? It seems like, no matter how I attempt to handle the issue, my access gets denied.
