Gaming FPS drops dramatically after installing Visual Studio

Windows RT

The other day, I installed Visual Studio Community. After restarting, I went to play Battlefield 1. The framerate that I usually get is around 50+, but now it is about half, hovering in the 20's. I did some research and found that I am not the only person that has had this issue. There does seem to be some common themes. All the instances were on AMD processors (mostly Athlon/Phenom era) running Windows 8 or higher. This has been going on for a few years it seems, so I doubt that a fix is available. My crazy theory is that the older AMD processors lack one of the instruction sets (probably AVX) that Visual Studio uses to emulate Android/IOS devices. So, on older processors, the VS installer replaces some Windows system files to compensate and mimic the missing optimizations to work properly. The side-effect is that windows reports this instruction set as existing and games now think that the CPU optimization is available attempting to utilize it, but since it is software emulated, it makes the game run more inefficiently than before. My PC: AMD Phenom 1090T X6 R9 280X 8GB Ram Windows 10 Here are some links to people who have experience the same thing: A: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/639918-windows-10-low-fps/?page=2 B: http://forum.worldoftanks.eu/index.php?/topic/554232-massive-fps-drops/ C: https://steamcommunity.com/app/730/discussions/0/496879865897785878/ D: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/38voh0/suddenly_very_bad_fps/ E: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/1100872/poor-performance-in-games-after-installing-visual-studio-community F: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3238108 G: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/support/Fps-drop-after-installing-visual-studio-2013 H: https://eu.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/17612991514 I: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/609180/why-are-these-games-lagging-on-my-build/ Thanks!

No Sign-in window after waking up from Sleep Mode

Windows RT

I have been running Windows 10 for the last year, the PC goes into sleep mode after 20 minutes. I press the keyboard/click the mouse once to wake it up, and press the keyboard/click the mouse again for the sign-in window to appear. Since the Microsoft security update on 14th Jan the PC still wakes up fine, but after the second press/click the sign-in window no longer appears. Now I have to do a ctrl+alt+del each time before the sign-in window appears. I have checked all the options to ensure that "select ctrl+alt+del" is not set anywhere. How can I go back to the way it used to work before?

Windows RT

I am facing BSOD regularly and its annoying and frustrating. I face this on a fresh windows install as well and once tried using UBUNTU but faced the same issue. I know it happens due to some dysfunctional hardware/software and I want to know about the one responsible for BSOD on my system. Now let me explain the scenario: For fresh install it happens when I start my system for the first time in the day or after some time interval say 1 hr. BSOD occurrence gradually increases with time and right now it has reached infinity :) Only hardware I have not replaced is Motherboard, daughter board & processor. DPC watchdog violation BSOD and loop and 0101101 Keyboard Stuck Key

Windows RT

Hello, thanks for any help in advance. I started up my computer today and it got stuck in a restart loop going back to DPC Watchdog Violation BSOD. The machine (Lenovo Z570, originally running Win7, now on Windows 10 64 home), made several attempts to self fix the problem, rolling back to previous versions etc but got stuck in a loop, saying it was unable to diagnose the problem etc. I made a few attempts at doing a hard restart and managed to get into safe mode once, but it didn't help me with anything. When it first switches on I got a 0101101 Keyboard Stuck Key message also and bleep. Somehow after about 3 hours I managed to get the machine to boot into windows. No Idea how. Intermittently the keyboard on the laptop locks on the q button, if I press another button like an arrow key it stops. I hardly use the the built in keyboard as I use it with an external wireless keyboard most of the time, its had no spillages and everything was working fine the previous day. I've since installed a a Lenovo update (Lenovo System Interface Foundation - 1.0.69.2) and ran checks for other updates, but nothing related to the keyboard. I also ran the dump files through WinDbg which identified i8042prt.sys as the likely suspect. Although this is the first time I used WInDbg so don't take my word for it. Any ideas on updating i8042prt.sys would be much welcome (if it is the cause). Have look on the lenovo site but nothing there. My dump files are here https://www.dropbox.com/s/dvym905rn2d9k93/dump%20files.rar?dl=0 I may now try a restart and see how it goes, but I need the machine to run my own business and as such its pretty critical for me to fix this. Thanks again.

a virtual space is pressed when the keyboard lid is connected after the latest win 10 upgrade

Windows RT

The problem is, when the keyboard lid is connected, a virual space will be pressed and disturbs my use(search, change the input language, and input characteristics ). For example, when I want to use "Windows" key to call the start menu, the keyboard switch will be activated since the hot key for this is “Win+Space” and the computer simply changes my input language. Or, if I go to the start menu, the Cortana will be activated before I do anything else since the virtual space keeps typing and leaving a lot of white space in Cortana. The product I use is Surface Pro 3, and the keyboard lid I use is the one for pro 4. The problem strats to occours after last win 10 upgrade (10,Jan).

SQL Server 2016 Report Builder failed to install

Windows RT

I'm evaluating the SQL Server Reporting Services 2016. When I install SQL Server 2016 Report Builder on my Windows 7 machine, the installer keeps asking it requires .Net Framework 4.5. My machine had .Net Framework 4.6.2 installed. I removed .Net 4.6.2 and 4.5.2 and installed .Net 4.5, however the installer still keeps asking me to install .Net Framework 4.5. My Windows version is Win 7 Enterprise with SP1. Has this issue been reported? Is there any plan to release a patch? Is there any workaround? Thanks, Jaehong

Updates invalidate password and locks out user

Windows RT

Edge option is only "restart and update" when you power up. After the updates were completed, the password to sign into my wife's computer no longer worked. The only help was a hint that it was the same password as her email account. That password did not work. When I went to the reset password option, it asked for a password recovery cd, which was supposedly created at install time. However, I never saw that requirement when a previous Microsoft update forced us from Windows 7 to Edge. How can I unlock my wife's computer and reset the password without a cd? Moved from Insider
