I have a new computer (Microsoft Surface with Windows 8.1) and have only downloaded Adobe software on top of what the computer came with. The computer has already crashed once (it froze and restarted itself) and after recovery, the icons of Windows apps do not appear on the task bar. A square appears and I can click it and it will take me to the open app however the square is blank with no icon. I have checked that the box is ticked next to the "Show Windows Store Apps on the Taskbar" option through the control panel but to no avail. I have also run a sfc/scannow command but this did not find any integrity violation. Any thoughts as to how to fix? Thanks
Original title: Restore to previous update or disable updates on Surface RT I read on these forums that I can't disable automatic updates on the Surface RT. Please consider making changes to this. How can I restore to the previous update on the RT? If I can. The new update installed yesterday. The PDF reader no longer works. It opens, but the pages never load. I really need this function to work. Desperately need it this month for my work. I experience issues with every update. I was better able to deal with issues with the last update than this one. I've downloaded several other PDF readers, and tried different PDF files that used to work just fine.
Split from this thread. I have the exact same problem on surface RT. So, when I go to open a PDF, it opens up a previously opened and closed PDF. And this problem is alternating with a new thing. Sometimes the new PDF just opens up to a black screen. First time I ever experienced this problem. How do I fix?
I recently purchased the Surface 2 tablet and I can't install adobe air. I looked at a discussion about this issue and found that Windows RT 8.1 is not compatible with adobe air but I still wanted ask if their is a way to get this work. I need it so I can run a different program to study for promotion. Original title: Adobe AIR issue
I have a wma file I would like to use as a sound for an alarm in the Alarms app. Is there any way to do that without 3rd party desktop apps because I am running Windows RT 8.1 on a Surface RT? Anything helps. And if there is no way to do it, can someone pass a suggestion to add it in the next update to Microsoft? Thanks!
I'm using Surface RT 8.1 with ebay app. Cannot find order tracking. MS Store description for app indicates order tracking is a feature of the app. If it's there, it's well hidden. In iOS, order tracking is a menu button within the item display -- very easy to find. Anyone found it in MS app? Thanks.
I have looked all over the internet but have seen nothing yet on this: Is there any solution for the issue of google maps loading with the map labels offset to the right? It happens whether I run it in full mode or lite mode, on the desktop or from the start menu, and it hasn't helped clearing out any caches, cookies, or factory resetting IE11. I am really irritated that 5 months after getting my Surface, I still don't have a resolution to this issue. It's an expensive piece of equipment to have this frustration. I'm not trying to get some small unheard of app to work here, I'm talking about one of the most used apps in the market! Google and Microsoft just point fingers at each other over it, which isn't helping anyone. Please, if anybody, expert or not, has found a solution to this, please let me know. Thank you! PS. Look at the screenshot to see what I mean. The capitol is not in the Anacostia river, the pentagon is not in the Tidal Basin, and the highway's labels are nowhere near the highway line.
Original title: What is up with Google Maps on Surface 2 Modern IE app? Recently, when pinch-zooming in Google Maps on the Modern IE browser on my Surface 2, it starts putting the labels of places in all the wrong positions. Spot the mistakes in this example:

I added a new recipe that I found in one of my mom's old cook books and I wanted to put it in one of my collections but I can't move it out of the "My Added Recipes" file. Is there a way to move it out of that one so it can be in my dessert collection?
Original Title - BSOD on startup Today I downloaded and installed Windows 8.1. This evening when I tried to boot up my machine I received a BSOD and the message restarting due to Driver Power State Failure. The machine tried to restart but failed. I turned it off then on again and it appeared to boot correctly. Anyone suggest the reason for the problem
