Desktop has gigantic display!

Windows Vista

My mouse was not working so I had to shut the computer off by pressing the off button for a few seconds. When I turned laptop on again the screen display was gigantic and icons were huge. What happened? I also have another monitor connected and it was ok, but now it is also gigantic. The magnifier box is unticked. I tried system restore, did not help. Also, cannot change the resolution because the box is so big, I cannot click "apply" on the bottom!

Missing Taskbar and Start Button

Windows Vista

Yesterday I fired up my computer and found my taskbar and start button missing. All my desktop icons are present and functioning, it's only the taskbar and start button that is missing. I did a CTRL-ALT-DEL and opened the task manager and typed 'explorer', but that fix didn't work for me. I also tried to have vista start up from a previous date, but I was told that since my disk is not using FATS, that isn't possible. HELLLPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!

Restore Vista color scheme

Windows Vista

original title: Where did my Windows Vista color scheme go and how do I restore it? My Windows Vista color scheme has vanished from my computer. Upon turning on my laptop this morning, I saw that my taskbar was a flat grey strip, and my previously round start button was a tiny rectangle. Clicking on the start button revealed my menus to be the uninspired 2D menus I remembered from earlier operating systems. I right-clicked the desktop, clicked "personalize", "window color and appearance", and checked the color schemes in the "appearance settings" dialog box. It listed "Windows standard", Windows Classic" and four High contrast schemes. It did not, however, list Windows Vista. Now, I'm getting a little cognitively impaired as I get older, but I'm pretty sure that Windows Vista was listed as a color scheme in this box the last time I looked. A quick check confirmed that in every other respect I am still running Vista Home Premium. Only the color scheme, transparencies etc. seem affected. I can recall doing nothing that should have had any effect on my color schemes. Does anyone have any idea why my laptop would suddenly lose its Windows Vista color scheme, and more importantly, how do I get it back? High Contrast-Unable to turn off

Windows Vista

I am a teacher at a middle school. One student has turned on the High Contrast for the student logon for one particular machine. He unclicked the box that says you can change the contrast with the alt-LeftShift-PrintScreen button. This logon is the one used by all students at this machine. When I try to go to the Ease of Access program, I get the following: This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator. It literally takes months for the administrator to get back to us here. I have tried logging on as myself. I have the control panel available on my logon. I tried changing the checkbox on and off, both while the student logon was logged on, as well as logged off. But when I am logged on as the student, nothing changes. We have Windows Vista Business, with a 32-bit operating system. I just need a way to turn that check box back on, so I can turn off this high contrast.

Everything on computer screen magnified, how do I fix this?

Windows Vista

I accidentally hit the keys on my laptop and the screen went dark. When it came on again a few seconds later everything it displayed was magnified. Web pages, toolbars, the desktop, everything. I think I accidentally hit some sort of hot key command that resizes how everything is displayed. This is a real nuisance and I'd like to fix it ASAP. I've checked my screen resolution and it's normal, at 800 x 600. I read an article that said the problem can be eliminated by hiding or showing desktop icons, but that didn't work either. I looked through the Microsoft Help database and this forum and Windows Help and Support and couldn't find anything that helped or even identified exactly what my problem is. I am running Windows Vista and all my graphics settings are on default. No matter what I try to display on my monitor-- the desktop, web browsers, and any program-- everything is magnified. When I try to adjust my browser magnification by using Ctrl - or +, only the content in the web browser window changes size and border of the browser (all my toolbars and searchbars) remain magnified. How can I put my screen back to normal?
