Green Lines On Desktop & Loading Screen

Windows Vista

Asked by: CutiePengu

For the last 2 weeks I have been having an issue with my Dell Precision M4700 Laptop.  I have had it for 3 years now, and of course the warranty just ran out in October.  When I got it, I was offered the free upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 and took it.  I've not had a problem with it until recently.

Here's my problem:

1.  Green lines across desktop, showing on browsers, and on screen just before login of computer.

On the 2nd, I downloaded 21 updates for the laptop.  Then, the computer wouldn't even reboot.  I went through forum posts trying to find out what was wrong with it, but nothing.  I took the battery out and have been running on constant AC power since Friday (it's the only thing that would allow me to get on the computer).  I had a friend of mine looking up how to boot the computer up into Safe Mode (which I hate using).  While in Safe Mode, I reset the computer back to the 2nd before all the updates were installed.  Since then, I have been doing great.  No lines, no black screen of death, etc.

Today, I got the lines again.  I logged off the computer for 4 hours, and came back on, and they are still there.  I don't know what else to do.  I'm adding photos of what I'm talking about, so that you can understand what I mean by "green lines".

2.  Since this all happened on the 2nd, I also have not been able to get into my games.  Games that I play constantly are now giving me the following errors/fatal errors:

HGE Started..

HGE version: 1.54
Date: 10.01.2017, 10:47:49

Application: Totem Tribe GOLD 1.06
OS: Windows 6.2.9200
Memory: 4194303K total, 4194303K free

D3D Driver: d3d10warp.dll
Description: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter
Version: 6.3.9600.17415
Can't find appropriate full screen video mode

The End.

Now, where it says "Can't find appropriate full screen video mode", I don't know what they are talking about.  But the game won't load at all now, and it keeps popping that .TXT file up every time I try to play it.  Even when I try to go into my game consoles (Wild Tangent, Big Fish Games, I Win Games, etc) and play a game through them, they come back as "Thank you for playing: (name of game here)", but I never saw the screen to even start playing it.

Also with this set, I have been getting references to my AMD HD Audio Device Driver, even though I have just recently updated it.

3.  Black Screen of Death

This one happened at the same time that # 1 did with the updates.  Since I reset the computer and am no longer using the battery but the AC to power the laptop, I haven't seen it.  But am unsure why it happened in the first place.  This also went away after I did the reset.

4.  Battery errors

I don't remember the exact wording of the error message, but it had something to do with the battery not working right.  Unsure of which battery it was talking about.  I know there is a cell battery that is contained on the mother boards of all computers, and the normal battery pack that is on the laptops so you don't have to keep it plugged in 24/7.

If anyone can help with any of these issues, it would be greatly appreciated.  Right now, the lines are not affecting my normal browser use (in other words, posting this I don't have the lines, but in my games on the browser I do, and also showing up on my email page as well.

Thanks in advance.

This is an example of what is going on with the screen.  Although you can't see the green lines in this one, they are there.  I can't find the other 2 full size photos I took, but this is the general idea.  It is on my screen before login to the computer, its on my desktop, and as you can see, on the games as well.  But, it's not showing up here, until I click a button (like to add the photo), then I see it.

Again, thanks in advance for any help, and all is appreciated.

Never let anyone tell you that you can't do something, for if they do, it just means they couldn't do it themselves.
