Windows Vista

Asked by: Wanna Porsche

I have gone online to Microsoft but each version of the Windows Installer tells me that it does not work. I have Windows Vista Home Premium and I guess it is 32 bit??

Vista comes with a Windows Installer version pre-loaded (I believe it is 4.0 but I could be wrong about the number) - so unless you have a reason to upgrade, it shouldn't be necessary as most programs will work with the pre-installled version.

You can determine whether or not it is 32-bit by going to Start / Computer / System Properties and it will tell you there on the General page under the System section.  I'm going to assume it's 32-bit in what follows.

When you say "it tells you that it does not work" what do you mean exactly?  EXACTLY what error message do you receive (including any codes even if they seem like gibberish to you)?  What version of Windows Installer are you trying to download?  If you want version 4.5 then you want Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.msu which can be found on http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4&displaylang=en.

If you're having troubles downloading and/or installing this update, please repost in the Windows Update Forum at: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/threads where people who specialize in update issues will be more than happy to assist you with your problem.  Be sure to include the answers to the questions I asked when you post there so they can give you the best and fastest service possible.

Good luck and I hope this helps.
