Graphics card preventing from starting in normal mode

Windows XP

I am having troubles starting my computer in normal mode. The monitor is an LCD screen I used when I originally bought computer. I since then switched to a different monitor and everything worked great. I am now trying to revert back to the original monitor, but it won't boot in normal mode. The screen just loses signal halfway through trying to load Windows. I can start it in safe mode with no problem. I uninstalled the video card driver and it starts in normal mode fine. However when it starts it reinstalls the video driver and it won't start in normal mode the next time. I can plug it back into other monitor and it works fine? I have also tried doing recovery, but with no success. I don't understand seeing as how I was using this monitor originally without any problems. Please help. Thanks.

Shutdown during Anniversary Update installation

Windows XP

I'm certain this has come up before for others, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. I recently got my laptop computer back from my hardware guy, and have been trying to install the Anniversary Update for Windows 10. At first, it wasn't finding any updates, which was, frankly, impossible (since the computer hadn't been updated since mid-September). I fixed that by unchecking the option to give me updates to other Microsoft products. So, anyway, now the 1607 update downloads, runs through the entire sequence, and then it comes to the section after reboot. The computer just shuts down completely - no restart or anything. The first time I tried this, it shut down around 53%. The second at 32%. When I power the machine back on, it goes into recovery mode. Upon checking my update history, the 1607 update isn't even listed, so I have no idea what might be causing this. Needless to say, I'm getting rather frustrated at this point. Help?

MS Office applications stop screensaver working - Windows 10

Windows XP

When I restart my PC the screensaver works perfectly well, and continues to do so if I open my browser (Firefox). However, as soon as I open an Office application - Outlook email, Word or Excel - the screensaver does not work at all - even if I close all applications. It only starts working again when I restart the PC. It there a setting somewhere in Office which controls this? The screensaver is set up correctly in Settings / Lock screen etc, and as stated, the screensaver is fine until MS Office is started.

Video playback not working

Windows XP

Hello, I have an HP 250 G5 Windows 10 laptop. (If more information is necessary, please ask!) Sometimes, and more often lately, video will NOT work. It doesn't matter which browser I am on or viewing a video offline. Sometimes the video will actually start but no sound. On offline videos (such as realplayer or windows media player, etc.) the video will be extremely slow and no sound either. On YouTube I get this message: if playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device. That does work, however it is not an acceptable answer. I have checked to see if I have the latest drivers and I do. It would be nice if I could actually get an answer from microsoft that WORKS. Thanks. p.s. I wasn't entirely sure what section to put this in and since I've been cussed out for that mistake before, I thought I'd play it safe and put it in "other settings". If that is still unsatisfactory, please feel free to MOVE it to the appropriate section.

Can't print from Adobe Reader, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint

Windows XP

Hi, friends. For days, I have been frustrated and stressed out because I could not print anything from my laptop. I have a Lenovo Z50, running on a Windows 8.1 OS. Specifically, in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, every time I click the Print icon, or press Ctrl+P, or go to File>Print, nothing happens. By “nothing,” I mean the Print Dialog Box does not appear and the whole Adobe Reader just freezes and is not responding. I thought it was a specific problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, so I uninstalled and reinstalled it again. Still, the problem remains. I discovered that this also happens to Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. I already tried the following “fixes” to no avail: Uninstalling and reinstalling my printer’s driver Stopping and starting the print spooler Updating my printer’s driver Restarting my laptop This just happened out of the blue, and I could not remember any major changes I have made to my laptop before this thing happened. For a student, this really stresses me out. I hope you could help me. Thank you so much, Ralph

Windows Update, (XP Pro SP2.)

Windows XP

Hi, I've recently reinstalled XP Professional on one of my old PC'S and I'm experiencing an issue with Windows Update. (I'm running SP2.) Whenever I try to access it I receive an error, 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. I'd like to download all the recommended software and security updates that were available for XP prior to the OS being discontinued. I need to ensure that my system is protected as much as possible. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks! :) Kind Regards, Troy

My wifi connection is lost after few days of not using my asus zenbook. It has been one of my problems to my laptop (the other is the bluetooth) but sometimes after few restarts it will appear afterwards. Now it doesn't work like that anymore. I checked the network adapters on device manager but it's also not included on the list. Please advice on what to do.

Snipping tool

Windows XP

I have a number of long newspaper articles I want to copy from a web page. These extend over several web pages, but Snipping Tool will not 'snip' beyond a page at a time. My solution so far is to open a blank Word page>snip the web page>copy>paste into Word. It's tedious, and my grandfather wrote 30 of these stories! Is there any way to get the snipping tool to capture more than one page at a time? Thanks, Alan
