Network Settings not available

Windows XP

Asked
Asked by: MichaelLinares

There's no possible way for me to connect to the Internet. In my network settings the only available options to change are data usage, vpn, dial-up, and proxy. To top it all off, when I go onto network settings ( going from the start menu >setting >network settings) an application error pops up saying memory could not be read. The only way to access it is through the task bar, even then only 4 things pop up. I recently put my PC into safe mode and took it out and this is the only problem besides the computer having an audio problem. (It says to restart to fix the audio but it still doesn't after 5 attempts) I'd be very grateful for anyone who can help me with this problem.

Hi Michael,

As you are facing issue with Network Settings and Audio, I suggest you to follow the methods provided below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run the Network troubleshooter.

  1. Type “Troubleshooting” in the search box and press Enter.
  2. Click on “View all” on the top left corner.
  3. Click on “Network Adapter” and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.

Method 2: Check for the issue in a Clean Boot state.

A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot.

* Place the computer in a Clean Boot and check if the issue is occurring due to any third party programs.

Follow the link to view the steps to perform Clean Boot:

Disclaimer:  Start the computer in normal mode refer the section, "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" from the link above.

Method 3: Perform the Audio troubleshooting by following the steps provided in the link below:

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on the status for further assistance.
