Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool says 'Genuine' but I keep getting 'Not Genuine' wanrings

Windows XP

I have been using a 'Genuine' version of Windows 7 for several years without issue, however a week or two back I had a problem with windows that required me to 'repair' on startup. Since then I have been getting the hourly popup telling me that I need to Active Windows, etc. Additionally, updates are now failing to install. As far as I can tell Windows is Activated, I have even rearmed, "slmgr -rearm" from the administrator command prompt. The windows genuine advantage diagnostic tool (1.9.0019.0) says that both windows and office are genuine. How do I stop this nagging hourly popup? Windows 10 Edge Browser slow after upgrading broadband to high speed fibre in the UK

Windows XP

My Edge browser has been reasonably fast at opening the home page using a broadband service in the UK of 7Mb/sec. However since upgrading to Fibre broadband giving 38Mb/sec the browser has gone dead slow and can take 20-30 secs to open the home page and is slow connecting to web pages. The router and laptop are always switched on 24hrs. Any thoughts out there with others experiencing this. I briefly read where the internet connection uses a higher speed interface for Fibre but not sure what it meant but had something to do with connecting a USB device to improve the connection on older computers.

Windows Crashes when using Avast and Malwarebytes together

Windows XP

I just wanted to post something real quick about an issue I was having. I just recently built my pc I'm using right now loaded up windows 10 onto because I already had a license and basically just personalized it. About 2 days into having the pc I installed Avast Internet Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware together and they were both running at the same time. Fast forward a little bit, avast and Malwarebytes were running fine but then I got a BSOD with the Stop Code "BAD POOL HEADER" I got back into windows and uninstalled Malwarebytes after I figured out what the Stop code meant. It worked fine after that. I really just wonder why that combination of virus and malware protection was causing the pc to crash...

Windows 7 Service Pack installation stuck at rolling back

Windows XP

I decided to install the Service Pack on my HP Pavilion dv7 running Windows 7 Home Premium. The download errored, but I fixed it with the troubleshooting tool. After a reboot, the configuration seemed to be working fine... until it got stuck at 46%. After a few reboots, it's "rolling back" the changes, or at least it says so. This happened to me once before, when Windows Update activated itself without my consent. Back then I "removed" the update in Safe Mode after each reboot and then it somehow fixed itself. However, I'd like to know a way to fix it while letting the update install fully. Is it possible? Note: I don't have the install disk and I don't really feel like downloading 5 GB on a limited data plan.

Windows Update KB3213986 Stopped my bluetooth working correctly

Windows XP

This may be a coincidence but over the last 5 days or so my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse keep failing to connect, I can't say for sure but it looks like the trouble started around the 11th Jan, when KB3213986 update was installed. Without keyboard or mouse I can't even wake my computer, I keep having to use Google Remote Desktop to open bluetooth settings and pair them again! It's a desktop PC, with a bluetooth dongle. Keyboard and Mouse are the Microsoft Designer Bluetooth set I've also just replaced batteries, to see if the problem is as simple as that, but it would be weird for the keyboard and mouse to both go at once!

How to delete and extend a partition in Windows 10.

Windows XP

I have a HP 15 laptop, with a freshly installed Windows 10. I have a friend that put on the Zorin OS in a dual boot configuration. However, the whole thing was botched (you have to go through the BIOS to access Zorin, plus after a few minutes the whole operating system freezes), and now I want the whole thing gone. Windows at first I thought wasn't affected, but it deadlocked one day on Pocket, but on nothing else so far. When I mean deadlocked, I mean deadlocked. The mouse won't move, the LAN switch doesn't respond, nothing. I had to force restart the whole laptop. Anyway, my friend created a whole new partition for Zorin, the size of which was 100 GB. I want to delete that partition, and extend the volume back over to the primary C: partition. I will include a screenshot of Disk Management so you can see what I'm talking about. I think I need to delete the 99.65 GB partition (Healthy, Primary Partition). Am I right? I would appreciate detailed instructions on how to do this safely, so that I don't delete the wrong partition. Plus if you will tell how to extend the empty space back over. If you will, I hope you can take screenshots of the entire process. Also, do I need to reinstall Windows? And why would Zorin freeze in the first place, and then Windows too? Thanks for all your help!

Update to enable TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 as a default secure protocols in WinHTTP in Windows

Windows XP

Hi This update - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3140245 is aimed at making it possible to deafult set Windows 7 to a particular TLS protocol 1.1 or 1.2, however the setting, as we understand it, it applies after install 1.0 across all browsers regardless of how advanced they are. Can anyone confirm that this is actually what happens?! Kind regards Jules Murray
